In a significant development marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025, the Government of Bangladesh has announced a series of robust measures to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse and trafficking. The announcement was made by the Honourable Home Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, during a high-level discussion organised by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC). Tk 1,400 Crore Rehabilitation Project At the heart of the government’s renewed effort is a Tk 1,400 crore project aimed at constructing drug rehabilitation centres in all seven divisional cities. This initiative seeks to provide proper treatment and recovery support to addicts, with a view to reintegrating them into society as productive citizens. In addition, the government has revealed plans to establish separate prisons for drug addicts in every division.
