Dhaka–Delhi Relations Enter Realignment Phase After Hasina Era

Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain has said that relations with neighbouring India are undergoing a phase of “readjustment” following the political upheaval that saw the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government, but stopped short of calling the ties “cold”. Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Hossain acknowledged a shift in dynamics with New Delhi, citing the absence of the “intimacy” previously shared between the former Awami League administration and the Indian government. “We must accept the reality that the relationship is in a phase of realignment,” he said. “We wouldn’t call it cold. We are not lacking in goodwill in that regard. That’s all I wish to say.” The remarks come amidst a visibly tense chapter in bilateral ties, which have frayed since the mass uprising of August 2024 that led to the ousting of the Hasina government and the installation of the interim
