BGB to Raise Two New Battalions in Khagrachori to Strengthen Border Security
Reading Time: 2 minutes In a major move to bolster security along the India-adjacent borders, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has announced plans to raise two new battalions in Khagrachori district, part of the strategically vital Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). The proposal, designed to strengthen surveillance, operational reach, and overall border management, is currently awaiting final government approval. According to BGB officials, the new battalions will enhance the force’s ability to conduct continuous border patrols, prevent cross-border crimes, and ensure stability in the hilly frontier regions, where rugged terrain and remote locations have long posed operational challenges. The expansion forms part of the BGB’s broader modernisation and development initiative aimed at ensuring more effective border control and improved coordination with local law enforcement agencies. At present, the Khagrachori Sector of the BGB comprises five battalions, which are responsible for monitoring extensive and strategically sensitive stretches of the border. These are:
