Bangladesh Ratifies Landmark Defence Pact with Japan, Opening Path to Advanced Military Technology

Reading Time: 3 minutes Bangladesh’s ratification of a landmark defence equipment and technology transfer agreement with Japan is set to open a new chapter in military cooperation between the two countries, potentially granting Dhaka access to some of the most advanced defence technologies produced by Japan’s highly sophisticated defence industry. The agreement, formally titled the Agreement concerning the Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology, was signed on 3 February 2026 at Dhaka Cantonment by Japanese Ambassador Shinichi Saida and Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer of Bangladesh’s Armed Forces Division.
