Bangladesh Army Inaugurates BMTF Night Vision Monocular Production Facility

Reading Time: 3 minutes The Bangladesh Army formally inaugurated a new Night Vision Monocular (NVM) production facility at Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd (BMTF) in Gazipur on 6 May 2026, marking a significant development in Bangladesh’s expanding defence-industrial base and broader efforts to enhance military self-sufficiency. The facility, established under the “Night Vision Monocular (NVM) Project”, was officially inaugurated by the Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army during a ceremony attended by senior military officials, BMTF management personnel and project representatives. The programme highlighted the project’s strategic importance to national industrialisation, technological capability development and indigenous defence manufacturing. The project centres on the domestic manufacture of image-intensified night vision monocular systems, including the ARGUS FS Mk2 multi-purpose night vision monocular. Production capability has been established through a transfer-of-technology arrangement involving BMTF and Cyprus-based THEON International, enabling full manufacturing, integration, testing and support activities to be undertaken within Bangladesh.
