Bangladesh Moves to Procure 40,000 Body-Worn Cameras Ahead of 2026 General Election

Reading Time: 3 minutes The Bangladesh interim government has initiated a large-scale procurement of at least 40,000 body-worn cameras for police officers ahead of the forthcoming general election scheduled for February 2026. The decision is intended to reinforce what officials describe as “foolproof, tamper-proof and fully accountable security coverage” across the country’s electoral landscape, especially at thousands of sensitive and high-risk polling stations. Body-worn cameras—commonly known as bodycams—are expected to play a critical role in maintaining transparency during interactions between police personnel, voters, polling officials and political agents. The devices will be deployed on the chests of officers directly engaged in election duties, ensuring that all security-related activities are recorded in real time.
