Bangladesh Navy Quietly Begins RQ-21 Blackjack Drone Operations in Bay of Bengal

Reading Time: 2 minutes The Bangladesh Navy has quietly commenced operations of the Boeing Insitu RQ-21 Blackjack unmanned aerial system (UAS) in the Bay of Bengal, marking a significant boost to its maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. The first flights reportedly took place on 24 September, shortly after the delivery of multiple US-made drones to both the Navy and the Bangladesh Army. Although no formal induction ceremony has yet been held, sources suggest the Navy has already deployed the RQ-21 in active surveillance roles across Bangladesh’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The system is expected to play a vital role in monitoring sea lanes, fisheries, maritime security threats, and illegal activities within the Bay.
