Bangladesh Navy Takes Over Strategic Jetty in Feni EPZ Amid Rising Security Concerns

Reading Time: < 1 minute The Bangladesh Navy is set to assume control of a jetty constructed by India inside the long-stalled Indian Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Feni. The development is part of a broader national effort to reclaim and secure the 900-acre plot that was originally handed over to India under the previous Sheikh Hasina administration for ‘economic cooperation’. The Feni EPZ had remained undeveloped for years despite initial plans involving Indian industrial giants such as Marico and Asian Paints, as well as some early involvement by Beximco of Bangladesh. Although the zone was initially intended for trade and investment, Bangladeshi security planners have raised concerns that it could be used for covert military logistics by India, especially given the construction of a jetty by Indian interests on the site.
