Army Captures Notorious Gang Leader ‘Shaheen Dakat’ in Cox’s Bazar

Reading Time: < 1 minute In a significant operation, the Bangladesh Army apprehended Shahinur Rahman, widely known as ‘Shaheen Dakat’, the alleged leader of a notorious criminal syndicate operating along the Myanmar border between Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban. The arrest occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 5 June 2025, when four army teams conducted a coordinated raid at Rahman’s in-laws’ residence in Majherghat village, Gorjania union, Ramu upazila. Lt Col Monowar Hossain of the 10th Infantry Division confirmed the operation during a press briefing later that day. Rahman, 32, is reportedly implicated in at least 20 criminal cases, including charges of murder, robbery, arms possession, and drug trafficking. His gang, locally referred to as “Shaheen Bahini”, is believed to comprise 40 to 45 members equipped with heavy weaponry, narcotics, and substantial cash reserves.
