Type 85 Tracked Armoured Personnel Carrier

The Type 85 Tracked Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), known by its manufacturer’s designation YW 531H, is a Chinese-designed armoured vehicle developed in the 1980s. Intended as an evolution of the earlier Type 63 APC, the Type 85 was developed primarily for export markets and featured improvements in mobility, protection, and capacity. It offers enhanced internal volume, improved suspension, and greater overall combat utility compared to its predecessor. The Bangladesh Army acquired the Type 85 during the 1989 to enhance its mechanised infantry capability. It remains a core component of Bangladesh’s armoured vehicle fleet, used in both training and operational roles across a variety of terrains. Its performance in mobility, amphibious operations, and infantry support roles has made it a valued platform for national defence missions.
