Bangladesh to Form Three New BGB Battalions to Strengthen Border Security with India

Reading Time: 3 minutes Bangladesh has taken a significant step towards enhancing its frontier defences by approving the formation of three new Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalions in Bhurungamari, Thanchi, and Meherpur — three strategic points along the long and often sensitive border with India. With the addition of these battalions, the government has authorised the creation of 2,258 new posts, signalling a major investment in border security, surveillance, and rapid response capability. Once implemented, the expansion will raise the BGB’s total strength from 57,477 to 59,735 personnel.
