Bangladesh to Upgrade Missile Frigate BNS Khalid Bin Walid Under G2G Deal with Türkiye

Reading Time: 3 minutes Bangladesh is preparing to modernise BNS Khalid Bin Walid (F25), a missile-equipped frigate of the Bangladesh Navy, under a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement with Türkiye, with the project valued at approximately BDT 650 crore. The upgrade forms part of Bangladesh’s wider efforts to strengthen maritime security, enhance naval combat capability and maintain effective control over its maritime boundaries in the Bay of Bengal and the broader Indian Ocean region. Upgrade Likely to Be Carried Out in Türkiye Given the extensive integration of Turkish-designed sensors, weapons and electronic systems, the upgrade work is expected to be carried out in Türkiye, where the necessary industrial infrastructure, technical expertise and original equipment manufacturers are located. Conducting the modernisation in Türkiye would allow for smoother system integration, testing and certification, while also reducing technical risks associated with complex combat system upgrades. The collaboration highlights Türkiye’s growing role as a defence partner
