The Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) has disclosed it is collaborating with a foreign partner to assemble advanced tanks and armoured combat vehicles for the first time in Bangladesh’s history.

It has also shown interest in jointly manufacturing military trucks in Bangladesh with the cooperation foreign companies. The projects were mentioned in the official website of the BMTF.

The Bangladesh Army owned corporation assembles 3-ton militarised trucks since 2001 at its vehicle assembly shop with an annual production capacity of 1,500 vehicles. It also builds 3,000 motorcycles and has diversified its productions to include trucks, utility pickups, buses, ambulances, prison vans and fire engines.

Further details have not been provided about the country of origin or the foreign partner companies nor how many tanks and combat vehicles BMTF will manufacture annually in its facilities.

BMTF may be working to address requirements for military and law enforcement agencies of the country who mostly rely on imported armoured vehicles from Europe, Russia, Türkiye, and the US.
