Bangladesh Navy Inducts Indigenous 70-Tonne Floating Crane BNFC Boliyan
Reading Time: 2 minutes The Bangladesh Navy has inducted a domestically built 70-tonne-capacity floating crane, designated Bangladesh Navy Floating Crane (BNFC) Boliyan, marking a further step in the service’s efforts to expand indigenous naval engineering and support capabilities. The vessel was formally handed over to the Bangladesh Navy during a commissioning ceremony held at Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited (DEW), the Navy-operated shipbuilding and repair facility on 4th of June 2026. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan attended the event as chief guest, alongside senior naval officers and DEW officials. Constructed entirely using indigenous technology and local engineering expertise, BNFC Boliyan has been developed as part of the Bangladesh Navy’s broader modernisation programme aimed at enhancing operational self-reliance and reducing dependence on foreign-built auxiliary platforms.
