Bangladesh reactivating dormant airports across

Reading Time: 2 minutes In line with Bangladesh’s evolving national defence strategy and regional force projection capabilities, several regional airports are being upgraded to support dual-use operations, serving both civil aviation and military requirements. These airfields can accommodate HALE and MALE UCAVs (Bayraktar Akinci & TB2), tactical airlift (C-130J, C295W), and rotary-wing assets (AW139M, Mi-171Sh). Each location is designed to host at least one helicopter squadron and two UCAV squadrons (1 HALE, 1 MALE), along with necessary infrastructure such as hardened shelters, fuel points, mobile radar, and command facilities. These airfields are selected based on strategic geography, border proximity, and capacity to support rapid reaction, ISR, and logistics missions. These airfields can be jointly operated by the Army and Air Force or independently in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
