Bangladesh Seeks Allied Partnerships for Indigenous Armoured Vehicle Production

The move reflects Dhaka’s growing emphasis on self-reliance in defence manufacturing while deepening cooperation with friendly states that have established expertise in land warfare systems. At present, the Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh rely largely on imported armoured personnel carriers (APCs), infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and specialised armoured platforms. While these assets have served the armed forces well in both conventional and counter-insurgency roles, the dependence on foreign suppliers continues to impose financial, logistical and operational challenges. With a defence budget carefully balanced between modernisation priorities and fiscal constraints, Bangladesh has concluded that the most sustainable path forward lies in domestic production under technology transfer arrangements.
