Bangladesh Army Inducting SH-15 Self-Propelled Howitzers

Reading Time: 3 minutes In a significant move to bolster its artillery capabilities, the Bangladesh Army is evaluating the procurement of truck-mounted 155 mm self-propelled howitzers from China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO), one of China’s premier state-owned defence enterprises supplying advanced systems to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). A seven-member Bangladesh Army delegation led by Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain—General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7th Infantry Division and Barishal Area Commander—will depart on 25 May for a four-day visit to the People’s Republic of China. The delegation will observe a live-fire demonstration of NORINCO’s SH-15 155 mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer (SPH), alongside associated logistical infrastructure including ammunition storage solutions. This visit follows an official invitation extended by NORINCO via a formal communication dated 15 May 2025. It forms part of a broader post-2024 modernisation strategy initiated by the Bangladesh Army following the departure of the Awami League
