Assessment of Indian Army Armoured Vehicles and Bangladesh Army Anti-Armour Capabilities

Reading Time: 5 minutes In the evolving theatre of South Asian security, the interplay between armoured formations and anti-armour capabilities remains pivotal. The recent comprehensive assessment of the Indian Army’s armoured vehicle inventory against the Bangladesh Army’s growing array of anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) systems underscores a critical strategic balance shaping the subcontinent’s military calculus. Bangladesh’s approach to modernising its anti-armour arsenal reflects prudent adaptation to contemporary threats. While India continues to invest heavily in state-of-the-art main battle tanks such as the Arjun and T-90 Bhishma, these formidable platforms are not invulnerable. The indigenously tailored blend of portable and vehicle-mounted ATGMs, alongside long-range precision strike assets like the TRG-230 and TRG-300 GMLRS, demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of asymmetrical warfare. One cannot underestimate the significance of mobility and versatility in Bangladesh’s strategy. The modification of civilian Toyota Land Cruisers into agile, mobile ATGM carriers is a testament to innovative force structuring.
