Bangladesh and South Korea Hold First Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks in Dhaka
Reading Time: 2 minutes The Bangladesh Navy and the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) held their first-ever Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks (NNST) on 27 October at the Naval Headquarters in Dhaka, marking a significant milestone in bilateral maritime cooperation between the two countries. The discussions centred on enhancing defence cooperation, strengthening maritime security, and expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering greater operational understanding, joint training opportunities, and future industrial cooperation within the maritime domain. This inaugural dialogue comes as the Bangladesh Navy continues its modernisation drive under the government’s Forces Goal 2030, aimed at transforming the service into a technologically advanced, multi-dimensional naval force capable of safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests. As part of its ongoing capability expansion, the Bangladesh Navy is in negotiations with South Korea for the acquisition of six diesel-electric powered advanced submarines to strengthen its underwater warfare fleet.
