Bangladeshi Photojournalist Shahidul Alam Detained in Israel; Türkiye Assists in Evacuation

Reading Time: 2 minutes Bangladeshi photojournalist Shahidul Alam, renowned for his work documenting human rights issues, is currently being held in an Israeli prison following his detention aboard a vessel attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Efforts are underway to secure his release, with Turkish authorities playing a key facilitating role. According to Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Amanul Haque, Turkish officials are preparing to transfer Alam to Ankara via a special aircraft, with the operation potentially taking place as early as today. However, Ambassador Haque cautioned that Turkish authorities “could not provide a hundred percent assurance” regarding the success of the release. Alam was among the passengers on the Conscience, one of several vessels operated by the international Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
