Escalating Tensions Along the Indo-Bangladesh Border: A Strategic Flashpoint in the Making

Reading Time: 4 minutes The Indo-Bangladesh border, stretching over 4,000 kilometres and dissecting densely populated rural heartlands, is again at the centre of a potentially serious regional flashpoint. In recent weeks, allegations have surfaced from credible Bangladeshi sources, including the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and major Dhaka-based media outlets, that India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has been systematically conducting illegal “push-in” operations forcing Indian nationals, often without documentation or due process, across the international boundary into Bangladeshi territory. Between April and late May 2025, over 280 individuals are believed to have been pushed across the border into districts such as Khagrachhari, Kurigram, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Chuadanga. Reports indicate that these actions occurred largely at night or during periods of low visibility, exploiting gaps in BGB surveillance coverage.
