France Offers Long-Range Air Defence Systems To Bangladesh Air Force

Reading Time: 3 minutes France has offered advanced long-range air defence capabilities to the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) as part of a broader effort to deepen bilateral defence cooperation and maintain a strong strategic presence in Bangladesh’s evolving air power modernisation programme. French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet visited Bangladesh Air Force Headquarters on 15 December, where he met with the Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. Following the meeting, the ambassador stated: “Pleased to meet Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. We discussed strategic issues, opportunities to strengthen cooperation and build closer ties between our two air forces.” During these discussions, France proposed the Aster SAMP/T NG long-range surface-to-air missile system to the BAF. The offer comes after Bangladesh signed a Letter of Intent with Leonardo for the Eurofighter Typhoon multirole combat aircraft, effectively sidelining France’s Rafale
