Bangladesh Should Join China-Led Global Mediation Initiative

Reading Time: 3 minutes Bangladesh Should Join China-Led Global Mediation Initiative to Counter Regional Pressure and Assert Strategic Autonomy. Bangladesh faces a complex strategic environment shaped by its geography and the conduct of neighbouring powers. It shares borders with both India and Myanmar. Relations with each remain delicate, influenced by unresolved disputes, cross-border security incidents, and political asymmetries. While Bangladesh has consistently maintained a policy of peaceful engagement and non-alignment, current regional dynamics call for a more assertive and structured approach to diplomatic defence. China’s recent launch of the International Organisation for Mediation offers such an opportunity. The organisation has been established to provide a neutral framework for the resolution of international disputes through dialogue and legal mechanisms. Bangladesh should seriously consider becoming a participant. Doing so would provide new tools to manage regional disputes, enhance diplomatic leverage, and counter the dominance of stronger actors without relying on military means.
