Patrol craft BNS Shaheed Daulat (P411), BNS Shaheed Farid (P412), BNS Shaheed Mohibullah (P413) and BNS Shaheed Akhtaruddin (P414) were formally decommissioned through a ceremony at Khulna.
The patrol boats sister ships Tawheed (P611), Tawfiq (P612), Tamjeed (P613) and Tanveer (P614) were transferred to the Bangladesh Coast Guard. All vessels of the class were transferred from China in March 1982.
The Shaheed class patrol craft were originally referred to as Type 062 in the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). They are the most widely used and exported Chinese built naval boats in terms of numbers. They are unsophisticated, yet relatively well armed for their size. Main duties included patrol mission and anti-submarine warfare.
The 113 ton Shaheed class craft are likely to be replaced by indigenously built Padma class coastal patrol
