The Bangladesh Navy is constructing one of the largest naval bases in Asia at Rabnabad in Patuakhali. The super base will be equipped with berthing facilities for submarines, surface combatants and aviation facilities such as air strip, hanger and maintenance blocks to ensure it maintains a commanding presence in the Bay of Bengal round the clock throughout the year.
The centrally located base is also going to be backed up by the nearby cantonment at Lebukhali, which will host a newly raised infantry division of the Bangladesh Army to protect the Southern region of Bangladesh from external threats. The proposed bases are being built as part of Armed Forces Goal 2030, which is a modernisation and expansion blueprint for the Bangladesh military.
A total of 1,129 posts will be created for different ranks including one for Commodore, four posts for Captain, twenty posts for Commander, thirty-three posts
