The Mil Mi-17 is a Russian multi-purpose helicopter produced since the 1970s and is operational with 110 countries around the world including over 50 armed forces.
The helicopters are manufactured by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant JSC in Moscow, the Kazan Helicopter Plant JSC in Kazan and the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, and are available in civil and military versions. The military variants include the transport, VIP transport, reconnaissance, combat support and the search and rescue.
The Bangladesh Air Force is the largest operator of the Mi-17 in Bangladesh. It flies multiple variants of the Mi-17 including Mi-17, Mi-171, Mi-171Sh and Mi-17V5. It also flew Mi-8’s in the past too.
The first Mil Mi-8 was delivered to Bangladesh Air Force in 1983. Twelve units were provided with the last example being withdrawn from service in 1995. By that time it also started operating the first three Mi-17.
