Boran 105 mm Air-Transportable Light Towed Howitzer

Reading Time: 3 minutes The MKE Boran 105 mm air-transportable light towed howitzer is a modern, lightweight 105 mm/30-calibre gun developed in Türkiye by Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi Kurumu (MKE). Designed for airborne, commando and light infantry formations, the Boran combines a compact, low-mass carriage with an integrated digital fire-control suite to deliver accurate indirect fire from a highly mobile package. The system entered service in the early 2020s and has since been exported, notably to Bangladesh. Development and Production History MKE developed the Boran to replace ageing 105 mm artillery pieces and to meet the operational requirement for rapid deployment and air portability. Qualification trials and firing tests were completed between 2019 and 2021, followed by production orders for the Turkish Land Forces and export customers.
