Bangladesh Army Chief to Visit China in June to Advance Strategic Defence Acquisitions

Reading Time: 3 minutes General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army, is scheduled to undertake an official visit to the People’s Republic of China in June, as part of Dhaka’s broader efforts to deepen defence ties with its principal strategic partner and supplier of military hardware. The visit is expected to serve as a key juncture in the finalisation of multiple defence acquisition programmes and the expansion of long-term military-industrial cooperation between the two countries. The Bangladesh Army’s Directorate of Weaponry and Systems (DWE&S) is coordinating the preparatory work for the visit, which includes an inter-directorate briefing involving senior officers from the Infantry, Artillery, Army Aviation, Armoured Corps, Engineers, Ordnance, Signals, Military Operations, Military Intelligence, and Military Training Directorates. The engagement aims to consolidate service-wide requirements and priorities ahead of Gen Zaman’s engagement with senior officials of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Chinese defence industry executives.
