In line with Armed Forces Goal 2030 the Bangladesh Navy will build most of its warships indigenously at its own shipyards across the country. This plan will ensure the rapid expansion of local shipyards in turn generating employment for thousands of people and also save valuable foreign currency in the process.
Bolstering indigenous shipbuilding industries
At present the Bangladesh Navy operates three shipyards including the Khulna Shipyard, Chittagong Dry Dock and Dockyard & Engineering Works, Narayanganj. The three working shipyards will be supplemented by a massive 200 acre shipyard near Payra deep sea port, which will become a centralised hub and host the largest naval base of the Bangladesh Navy that will include submarine berthing facilities and a naval air station for the growing fleet of naval aircraft.
