The Government of Bangladesh is proceeding with plans to establish a strong naval force as outlined in the Armed Forces Goal 2030 to safe guard the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bangladesh. This detailed plan includes procurement of modern armaments and platforms to ensure a balanced, technologically updated military capability is maintained in the context of prevailing geo-political threats.
The naval platforms will be utilised for protecting the busiest sea port in the Bay of Bengal, known as Chittagong port. This shallow water port handles over $60 billion worth of maritime trade for Bangladesh alone. Together with under construction Payra deep sea port near Patuakhali and Matarbari deep sea port the Bangladesh Navy will be increasingly looked upon to ensure trade, resource exploration activities and fishing activities are carried out unhindered.
Submarine warfare is one of four divisions of modern underwater warfare, which also includes anti-submarine
